456th Bomb Group

Another "Short Snorter"

A popular term for hedging your bet that you'll come back from a mission found its way to becoming the name for one of the 456th's well used Liberators. A dollar or a sawbuck torn in half was useless unless both halves were together - so if you and your buddy both came back, you knew you had enough money to get a "short snort"!

It also was used (rather beautifully, too!) for this ship, a P-47. I have no other information than this original photo, found at a swap meet in Detroit in the early 1980's.
